Goodbye 2020, Hello 2021


2021, please be good to me. 2020 had its ups and downs, but it has brought many blessings in my life. I know not many can say that, and I'm grateful that it has brought my family closer and changed my perspective on what's important. I was able to spend more time with Eric (my now husband) and get to know each other better as he started working from home because of COVID. We got engaged last October and legally married two weeks after! We will be having a ceremony in May. It will be an intimate ceremony with only close friends and family since we're still cautious with COVID. It's been a busy last couple of weeks as we moved into our house a couple days before the holidays and hosted Christmas and New Years at our place with my family. I think I spent most of 2020 discovering new hobbies outside of photography and spending time with family, in laws, and keeping in touch with friends near and far. 

I can now say with certainty that Eric enjoys my cooking. To be honest, I didn't know how to cook until I met Eric and wanted to make him something delicious as he always cooked for me. I started looking up simple recipes I could find on blogs and YouTube. My favorite blog for Korean recipes is Future Dish. His recipes are simple and doesn't require me to go out and get multiple ingredients I probably won't be needing after I make one dish. 

I thought I'd jot down some goals I have for this year so I can look back at the end of the year and see what I was able to accomplish.



01 // Spend less, save more.

I always tell myself this, but now that I have Eric keeping me accountable I'm able to actually do so. I don't think I've realized how much I've been spending just aimlessly since I've been living at home with my parents before I moved out. Now that we have bills to pay I'm a bit more cautious at what I need to buy versus what I want, which now includes not picking up flowers everytime I'm at Trader Joe's. 

02 // Live with less clutter.

I didn't realize how much stuff I had until I moved out. It took awhile to sort out everything, but in the end I was able to let go of things I no longer needed and donate clothes I no longer wear. I still have rummage and sort out my office and guest room, because the closets are still full with bags of my clothes and items. I recently watched the Netflix documentary Minimalism and it helped me realize that instead of holding onto sentimental items, it's the memories you hold onto. That really struck me and as sad it was to let go of old cards and photos. I don't look through memory boxes often, and they were stacking up with every single card friends and family wrote me. I know that I still have memories that I can always look back onto and keep hold of certain sentimental cards and items.



03 // Take care of myself

I never thought taking care of my health was a priority, but it's now catching up to me. I've been cutting back on processed food and cooking meals at home. I'm learning to take some time to relax and not be so hard on myself. I realized when I'm stressed it takes a toll on me physically, and I've been finding ways to destress. Taking walks around the neighborhood, playing board games with Eric, making myself a cup of coffee, reading a book, or listening to music has helped. Taking a break from social media has also helped me to unwind and focus on what's in front of me instead of comparing my life with others. 



04 // Travel locally

I've always preferred to travel out of country, but last year opened my eyes to domestic travel when I booked airbnb's close to home. I went on a couple of mini trips nearby and it was fun venturing out to places a hour or two away. I would love to travel other states this year instead of traveling abroad. Few places on my list: Utah, Georgia, Texas, and Hawaii.

05 // Journal everyday

I'm not sure if I can everyday, but I'm hoping that I can write down my thoughts in the five minute journal I've recently been using. I put it on my nightstand so I remember to pick it up and write what I'm grateful for. I think it has helped me count my blessings each day and to start the day with a positive outlook and mood.
