WARDROBE STAPLES & INSTAGRAM TIPS

September 4, 2015

Fall is coming and I can't be more excited, I wish it could be fall all year round! Some of my wardrobe staples include: simple tees, oversized shirts, a striped tee, denim jacket, and distressed jeans. During the fall I like to wear scarves, cardigans, and sweaters - as you can tell I like to dress comfy and casual. I'm not a big heel person so I'm either wearing flats, loafers, or sneakers all year round.
I've had a lot of questions asking how I take my photos, here are some tips:

TIP 1.
HAVE A CLEAN BACKGROUND. Typically I take photos with a white background to balance out the colors and it's a neutral color that goes with everything.
TIP 2.
ALWAYS TAKE PHOTOS IN NATURAL LIGHT. I typically take my photos in the morning before 11am. I rarely take photos after 1pm because the photo isn't vibrant and the photos have a grey or yellow tint even after I filter them.
TIP 3.
TAKE PHOTOS FROM DIFFERENT ANGLES. Believe it or not but I usually take at least 30-40 photos from different angles for one picture. Just like when you're at the mall trying out different clothes for an outfit, I try to imagine and see how it comes together when putting a photo together.
TIP 4.
TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT AND INCLUDE A DIFFERENT BACKGROUND OR SETTING. It gets a bit repetitive when you always have the same background so I like to change it up once in awhile. Some examples: outside at a park, restaurants, floor tiles, or a simple marble background can make a difference. I used to always do OOTD's flatlay style, but I started to mix it up a bit.
TIP 5.
PLAY AROUND WITH DIFFERENT APPS AND FILTERS. It took me awhile to figure out which apps worked for me and which didn't. If you look at my Instagram feed you can see that I started out first with a "yellow" tint, "pink" tint, and now a "natural" tint. Different apps create different filters, some of my favorite photo editing apps are Afterlight, VSCOcam, and Instagram. I typically use VSCO and Instagram, first VSCO and then Instagram for touch ups if needed. Some of my favorite presets on VSCO are: S (Bright & Clean), The Legacy Collection, 04 or 05 does the trick, Hypebeast, and Vibrant Classic. I sometimes layer filters but my go to presets are 04 or 05, Hypebeast, and S (Bright & Clean). On Instagram, I like the filters: Clarendon, Lark, and Juno and adjust the level of the filters so it's not overfiltered.

Most importantly I think it's important that you first take photos in natural light and filter your photos after (if needed). Photography is a skill that takes practice and patience. I'm still not where I want to be but learning which angle works best and having fun with it is what makes photography enjoyable. I was also asked what camera I use for my photos, I use an iPhone 6 for all my photos on Instagram! Hope this post was helpful :)
